A couple weeks back, during the Academy Awards weekend, I spent a few days in Los Angeles engaging in all sorts of debauchery. It was, as they say, the best of times.
One of the highlights was having cocktails with somebody who’d heretofore fallen into the bizarro world, post-modern category of “internet baseball friend.” You know what I mean, somebody whose blog I’d linked to (and vice-versa), traded emails with, shared a couple phone calls, and had even *friended* on Facebook.
I know, I know, this sounds like the intro to one of those disturbing 20/20 exposes, where something innocent suddenly goes terribly wrong.
I didn’t go to Santa Monica specifically to meet Jeff Polman (the mastermind behind Play That Funky Baseball), and his charming wife Carmen (a talented artist), but I’m glad we carved out the time.
Turned out to be one of the many highlights of an incredible weekend.
Jeff and Carmen are warm, decent folks. Sometimes, something innocent suddenly goes incredibly well.
Can’t wait to get out there again.
